Bleeding after menopause

Dr. Hasan İnsel

After women have finished their ovarian function, that is to say they do not see menstruation from the six months of 'menopause period' begins and almost all of the lives of women in menopause passes. It is normal for men to change during a woman's life so long. But there are some situations, you have to be careful to see them as alarm signals. Bleeding after menopause is an example of what to look out for. This is the gynecological and obstetrician Dr. Şükrü Sanus'la talk, here they are:

"Menopause in a woman entering the period between the normal menstrual period and menstruation does not occur. Except for regular bleeding during monthly hormone therapy, any vaginal bleeding that occurs is called 'post menopausal bleeding', 'menopausal bleeding' or 'postmenopausal bleeding'.

Bleeding complaints in the post-menopausal period are never considered normal, are often a problem indication and should always be investigated.

Causes must be distinguished

Women who complain of bleeding after menopause should be evaluated gynecologically. Some of these bleeds can be from causes other than gynecological diseases, first of all they must be distinguished.

Use of the most common underlying hormone drugs in postmenopausal bleeds. Long-term hormone treatments to improve osteoporosis and quality of life can lead to the development of regular menstrual-like bleeding in some patients. If the hemorrhages are also irregular in patients taking such medication, it is useful to consult a doctor again.

Today there are hormone drugs that are used and do not cause bleeding. These medications may also have irregular blebs for the first three months, but any subsequent bleeding must be investigated.

Sometimes the blood from the urinary tract or from the intestines can also interfere with such vaginal bleeding.

What could be the source of the hemp?

Vagina: Vaginal atrophy associated with menopause and dryness may result in trauma to the joints. A mass originating from the vagina may also lead to bleeding.

Cervical mouth (cervix): Polyps or other types of good or bad-tempered masses can bleed here.
One of the earliest findings of cervical cancer is bleeding again, and the control is easy enough to be done with a gynecological examination.

Uterus: Excessive thickening or thickening of the endometrium (endometrium) (endometrial hyperplasia), a polyp, myoma or other type of good or bad mass formed here, some medicines may cause bleeding.

The treatment of a postmenopausal bleeding depends entirely on the cause of the bleeding, the cause of which is investigated in the following order:
* A patient with a complaint of post-menopausal bleeding is first subjected to a detailed gynecological examination to determine the source of the bleeding.
* Speculum and vagina in the cervix to see if there is a problem.
* Besides, uterus and ovaries are evaluated by ultrasonography. It may be necessary to observe the inner wall of the uterus with some special methods.
* Post-menopausal bleeding from the uterus should be biopsied (probe curettage). This procedure is also used for control purposes, even in cases where the endometrium is thicker than 4-5 mm in postmenopausal controls.
In summary, for any bleeding that is not known to occur during menopause, he should say, 'It's not important or it's passed,' and certainly a doctor should be consulted. '
